MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The driver of a commercial truck that struck and killed a Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputy on Sunday has been arrested, according to authorities.

On Monday, the driver of the commercial truck was identified as 20-year-old Ian Perez, who is now charged with passing certain vehicles in violation of bodily injury as a result of failing to slow down or move over while passing emergency vehicles, MCSO said.

MCSO said that deputies responded to the multi-vehicle crash at 2:39 a.m. on Sunday.

After an investigation by MCSO, the driver responsible for the initial crash was identified as 34-year-old Ashton Jammer. Jammer was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and taken to the Montgomery County Jail, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputy Erika Serrato, 24, was assisting at the scene of a DWI-related crash on the northbound lanes of I-45 when she was hit by a commercial utility vehicle around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle.

Authorities said that Serrato died at the scene. A second deputy, John Hernandez, was struck by debris and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening.

The sheriff's office said that additional or enhanced charges may be filed against Perez as the investigation is ongoing.
