UTMB police asking for public's help in finding man accused of assaulting security officer

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The University of Texas Medical Branch is asking for the public's help in searching for a suspect accused of assaulting a security officer in Galveston.

The incident happened in the 600 block of Market Street at 5:58 a.m. on Sunday, where a UTMB employee was approached by a man driving a 2010 Honda Accord.

Police say a UTMB security officer arrived at the scene and intervened, allowing the worker to leave safely. Law enforcement says that the suspect then exited his car and physically assaulted the officer. Police say that the suspect later fled the scene.

Police say they have identified the suspect as Mark Anthony Johnson Jr., who is now charged with assault on a security officer.

According to police, the UTMB worker wasn't injured in the incident, and the officer sustained minor injuries.
