HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- New details have been released after a man and his girlfriend died following a five-hour standoff at a west Harris County apartment complex, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
HCSO deputies identified the man as 23-year-old Caleb Green. According to deputies, Green called 911 just before 2p.m. on Monday and said he accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend at The Century apartment complex at 1002 Katy Gap Road.
Upon arrival at Monday's scene, deputies say they found Green's girlfriend lying on the floor dead from at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso and head area. Green's girlfriend has not yet been identified.
According to HCSO, authorities made contact with Green, but he wouldn't cooperate with law enforcement for several hours. Green continually walked to the balcony of the apartment with a gun pointed at his head, deputies said.
Green then shot himself in the head while standing outside on the balcony after speaking with law enforcement through his cell phone, HCSO said.
Investigators say Green had experienced the loss of more than one person close to him in the last year, and he was having relationship problems with his girlfriend.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death for both Green and his girlfriend.
