LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Liberty County courthouse is without power for the second day after the Liberty city manager said an electrical transformer blew out on Sunday.
He said the courthouse is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday.
This comes just one month after CenterPoint Energy donated a new generator, which was supposed to be used to "power key facilities."
The problem, according to maintenance workers, is that the generator is so new that it's never been used before and wasn't hooked up.
The city manager said another transformer has been ordered and is scheduled to be installed early Tuesday morning.
According to the Precinct 1 Commissioner, there were no criminal trials scheduled at the courthouse this week.
CenterPoint shared the following statement.
"Though CenterPoint Energy serves a portion of Liberty County, the Liberty County Courthouse is outside of CenterPoint's electric service area. The generator donated to the local Office of Emergency Management through CenterPoint Energy Foundation's Community Generator Donation Program is a trailer-mounted unit that the OEM can use to power key facilities as necessary."
