Fiery rescue caught on video after wrong-way crash on Hwy 249: HCSO

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office released a video on Wednesday showing deputies rescuing a driver reportedly trapped in a burning vehicle after a wrong-way crash.

HCSO said the crash happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 17, on Highway 249, also known as Tomball Parkway, near Spring Cypress.

According to the sheriff's office, a man was driving the wrong way along the highway when he hit another driver.

The wrong-way driver, identified as 25-year-old Julio Alberto Calero Ramirez, was killed, and the other driver was left trapped, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

In the released video, deputies could be heard trying to get the man out as the flames got more intense.

Officials said two deputies working alongside wrecker drivers were able to pull that driver out.

At last check, the man, who has not been identified, is in the hospital in critical condition, but he's expected to be OK.
