HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department has confirmed that a body was recovered from Buffalo Bayou on Saturday morning.
Officials were called to Hirsch Road near Clinton just before 9 a.m.
According to HPD, a kayaker was out and came across a body floating in the water and notified the authorities.
It is unclear at this time whether the victim has been identified or what led up to their death.
This is the fifth body found in less than a week in a Houston bayou.
The bodies of a man and woman were found hours apart in Brays and Greens Bayou on Monday, before two additional bodies were found on Tuesday and Wednesday, officials confirm.
The recent discoveries have spurred social media rumors of a potential serial killer in the Houston area.
Criminal justice professor Krista Gehring, at the University of Houston Downtown, has concluded that the rumors are false, but notes that she understands people's concerns.
"I don't think the average person should be concerned that they're going to be victimized and wind up in the bayou," Gehring told ABC13 Friday.
An investigation is currently underway.
