WHARTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities say a firefighter was injured after a large fire broke out at an apartment complex in Wharton County overnight.
The Wharton Volunteer Fire Department said crews responded to the flames at about 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday along Junior College Boulevard. An ABC13 viewer sent a video showing the flames shooting from one of the buildings.
Chief Hector Hernandez with the fire department said one firefighter suffered minor injuries after some bricks fell on him.
The Wharton Police Department said it happened when part of a wall fell, but the firefighter was checked out by first responders and is OK.
Police added that no residents were injured in the fire.
A man ABC13 spoke with said he was at work when the fire happened, but that his daughter was home.
"She was crying and stuff. She was just happy that she was able to get the cat underneath the bed because she was freaking out," resident Logan Wandell said. "It was just pretty traumatic for her."
Officials said the Red Cross will help the people who were displaced.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
