SPRING, Texas (KTRK) -- A 20-year-old man has been charged after allegedly traveling to California and throwing a Molotov cocktail at the home of an AI company CEO on Friday, according to court records. Federal agents say they are investigating the incident as an act of domestic terrorism.
The suspect was identified as Daniel Moreno-Gama. Gama was reportedly caught on video surveillance outside OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's home in San Francisco on Friday.
The incident happened just after 5 a.m., on a section of Lombard Street in the Russian Hill neighborhood, according to a previous report. The suspect allegedly "threw an incendiary destructive device" at Altman's house, which sparked a fire on an exterior gate, San Francisco police said. No one was injured, police said.
The suspect fled on foot but was later identified and detained. San Francisco police said the suspect was found an hour later outside of the OpenAI headquarters, where officials said he had threatened to burn it down.
Moreno-Gama, who allegedly had kerosene in his backpack, was seen trying to hit the building's glass with a chair, according to court documents.
The suspect's charges come on the heels of the Montgomery County Constable saying an FBI raid on a home in the Woodlands on Monday was tied to the attack.
INITIAL REPORT: 20-year-old arrested after throwing Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's San Francisco home, OpenAI says
ABC13's SkyEye was over the scene in Spring, where a large law enforcement presence was observed. Court records confirm Gama lived at the Woodland's home.
Neighbors said they never saw a young adult coming or going from the home, only a middle-aged couple.
"That's the kind of people the homeowners were, they are wonderful people, I would be shocked to learn they were involved in anything," a neighbor told ABC13.
According to officials, Moreno-Gama was also found to have documents where he expressed anti-AI sentiments.
In a Monday press conference in San Francisco, law enforcement announced Gama faces a list of charges ranging from attempted murder to arson.
Federal agents in that press conference also took time to admonish extreme rhetoric they say fuels violent acts.
