90-year-old woman dies after contracting West Nile virus, Montgomery County officials say

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A 90-year-old woman has died after she contracted the West Nile virus, Montgomery County officials said.

In a statement shared by the county's public health department, officials confirmed that the woman was diagnosed with the neuroinvasive disease.

She resided in ZIP code 77304, according to officials.

The woman's death marks the first related to the mosquito-spreading virus in the county this year.

Officials throughout Southeast Texas, including those in Brazoria County, Harris County, Galveston County and Fort Bend County, have all reported cases of the virus this year.
