Church volunteer charged after child pornography found on computer, Precinct 1 says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- "Hundreds" of images of child pornography were found on a computer that allegedly belonged to a youth church volunteer who has since been arrested, Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office said.

Kevin Hartgrove, 45, was taken into custody at his home on Wednesday and charged with two felony counts of possession of child pornography, which carries a penalty of up to 99 years in prison.

Constable Alan Rosen said this is a disturbing crime, and he wants the suspect to be held accountable.

"It's extremely disturbing. Anytime I see things like this, that you're dealing with children. It's someone that's very sick," Rosen said.

Officials said there is no evidence that any children in the images were the ones he worked with at the church where he volunteered, but they are asking for anyone who may have encountered him to come forward.

"We're putting this out there, in case there are any victims, we want them to come forward. We will treat you at the absolute, utmost respect, and we'll help you get through this, but we want to hold him accountable if he did do something inappropriate to a child," Rosen said.

Rosen added that they are worried about the people Hartgrove has been around.

"A volunteer as a youth minister at a church, so he purposely put himself in the arena of being around kids. That's what's most concerning to me," Rosen said.

According to Precinct 1, several files were found involving multiple young girls between the ages of 11 and 13.

In court, a judge set Hartgrove's bond at $20,000. His bond conditions include having no access to phones, computers, and no contact with children under the age of 17.

Officials said anyone with information about Hartgrove or this case is urged to contact the Harris County Constable Precinct One Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at 713-222-4929.
