HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A bartender was shot by a patron early Saturday morning after escorting the patron out of a northwest Harris County bar for being intoxicated, officials said.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call at the Scary Canary Pub located at 8670 Highway 6 North at around 2:10 a.m. on Saturday.

Officials said a man, identified as 22-year-old Chase Harris, was a patron of the bar before being escorted out by bar staff for being too intoxicated.

Investigators said that later, a bartender had locked the front door of the bar and was walking away when Harris pulled out a pistol and shot numerous times into the front door. The bartender was hit twice by the gunfire and fell to the ground, according to HCSO.

Officials said Harris initially ran away towards the highway, but he later walked back to the scene during the investigation and told deputies he was the one who shot into the bar.

Harris was taken into custody, and the handgun was recovered, according to authorities. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carry of a handgun in a prohibited place, HCSO said.
