I-10 at Garth Road to close due to work on power lines: Centerpoint

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Drivers across the Houston area should prepare for several road closures this weekend, including an overnight I-10 shutdown tied to CenterPoint Energy work and ongoing construction in Galveston County.

I-10 east of Houston closes Saturday night

TxDOT will close all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-10 from Cedar Lane to Bayou Drive beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 18, through 6 a.m. Sunday, July 19.

The closure will allow crews to complete construction work, with detour signs posted throughout the area.

Eastbound traffic will detour by exiting at Magnolia Avenue, continuing on the frontage road, turning right on River Road, left on Market Street, and immediately turning right onto the I-10 frontage road.

Westbound traffic will detour by exiting at Magnolia Avenue and continuing on the frontage road to the Cedar Bayou on-ramp.

CenterPoint to temporarily close I-10 at Garth Road

CenterPoint Energy will temporarily shut down I-10 at Garth Road from 12 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday, July 19.

The closure will allow crews to remove overhead power lines as part of reliability upgrades to support growing energy demand.

All eastbound and westbound main lanes and both eastbound and westbound feeder roads at Garth Road will be affected.

CenterPoint also said freeway lights in the area will be turned off from 10 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday, while crews work.

I-45 frontage road closure continues in Galveston County

In Galveston County, the northbound I-45 frontage road at FM 2004/Camp Wallace Access Road in the Texas City/La Marque area remains closed.

The closure began at 9 p.m. Friday, July 17, and is expected to continue through 5 a.m. Thursday, July 23.

Northbound frontage road traffic should turn right onto FM 2004, then left onto the Emmett F. Lowry Expressway frontage road to reconnect with the I-45 northbound frontage road.

Eastbound FM 1764 traffic should continue east on FM 2004, then turn left onto the Emmett F. Lowry Expressway frontage road to access the I-45 northbound frontage road.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow posted detours, and use caution when driving through work zones this weekend.
