5-year-old girl killed after being ejected during crash, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 5-year-old girl is dead after being ejected from a vehicle in a car crash near Hermann Park in southeast Houston on Tuesday, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD said officers responded to a deadly two-car accident that happened at about 4:30 pm in the 6300 block of Almeda Road, right off of Hermann Park.

According to officials, a black SUV was driving along Alemda Road when a white SUV pulled out of the intersection at Dixie Drive. Officials said there was a collision, and a 5-year-old girl was ejected about 10 feet out of the black SUV.

Officials confirmed the girl was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash.

HPD said that investigators are unsure if the girl was in a safety seat or not.

Images from SkyEye showed a vehicle on its side surrounded by emergency vehicles as law enforcement shut down the street during their investigation.

Officials said there was no sign of intoxication in the drivers in the crash. HPD did not say whether or not anyone else was injured.

Investigators and officials from the District Attorney's office are on the scene, according to HPD.
