HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston leaders are scheduled to vote Wednesday morning on potentially spending more than $35 million on future street and drainage projects throughout the city.

"Drainage projects are so critical for the City of Houston," District A Councilwoman Amy Peck said. "These projects will help many homeowners and businesses from flooding continuously."

There are a total of six ordinances on tomorrow's city council agenda that are related to such projects.

The city indicates it would cost a total of $35,837,662.51.

"That's actually a drop in the bucket on what needs to be spent," Public Works Director Randy Macchi said.

Items mentioned in the agenda also include projects that would improve streets and drainage in places like Westbury and Chateau Forest.

"We've got all sorts of things from detention ponds to neighborhood projects that are going to really reshape the drainage systems in those neighborhoods," Macchi said

Peck told ABC13 her constituents have been positive when it comes to the city spending their tax dollars on projects that could lessen the impacts of flooding.

"I think people generally want their tax dollars spent on infrastructure and drainage projects," she said.

Wednesday's city council meeting, which is scheduled to include votes on these ordinances, begins at 9 a.m. at Houston City Hall.
