Pearland couple accused in Santa Fe man's stabbing

PEARLAND, TX (KTRK) -- A husband and wife are accused of stabbing a man found bleeding in his truck.

Kiesta Danielle Smith, 24, and Stephen Trent Smith, 29, of Pearland are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They're accused of stabbing a man, identified as Gary Armantrout of Santa Fe, who League City police found driving a truck through the grass in the 1200 block of Enterprise Wednesday.

Armantrout, who had been stabbed, was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

A follow-up investigation led to Kiesta and Steven Smith, who are married. Police believe there had been a romantic relationship between Kiesta Smith and Armantrout.

Bond for both is set at $40,000. If convicted, they each could be sentenced to 2 to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
