HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- "Hand-cut, handmade and handed down is what custom boot making is really all about," beamed Parker Custom Boots owner Zephan Parker.

Inspired by American history, Parker set out on his boot journey several years ago. He packed up his wife and three children and traveled across the nation, visiting some of the greatest boot shops in the world and learning about the craftsmanship from some of best bootmakers alive.

Shortly after, Parker Custom Boots in Spring Branch was born. Instilling the integrity, quality and craftsmanship he witnessed on his journey into his own company, Parker not only creates handmade custom cowboy boots but also wallets and belts.

"When you walk into our shop, the first thing you are going to find is me," explained Parker. "I can't truly build a custom boot or item without knowing more about the person. Where they came from and what their childhood was like are just a couple of questions I may ask a first-time visitor."

It takes Parker about 30 hours to turn flat pieces of leather into timeless pieces of wearable art.

At Parker Custom Boots, it's all about family. Parker's wife Cathleen helps run the business, and his three children join in on the fun every day.

"Being able to walk in somewhere and actually get to shake the hand of the maker is totally different and makes for the best experience," Parker said.
