Digital ax-throwing range on Long Island hits the bull's-eye for fun
Take your stance and keep your eye on the target at NY Axe, where you can throw real axes at digitally projected screens featuring all kinds of games.

EAST FARMINGDALE, New York -- Carl Mazza has hit the bull's-eye for a new business idea on Long Island.

After visiting ax-throwing ranges in the city and doing research, Mazza decided he wanted to target Long Island for a similar business, and soon enough, NY Axe Throwing Range in Farmingdale was born.

However, he wanted to bring the game into the 21st century by adding a fun twist: a digital projector that offers a variety of games.

"It's a digital ax-throwing range where you are throwing real targets against the wood with projected images on the wall," said Mazza.

"We have tic-tac-toe, Connect Four, and you can even throw at zombies. It's really a fun time, great for families to come down, and you can do corporate events during the week," said Mazza.

As soon as you walk in, you sign a waiver and are walked through a training seminar, since you will be throwing a real ax, but under the watchful eye of an "ax-pert."

"You learn the basics on how to hold the ax, how to throw the ax, and then you are brought to one of the lanes," said Mazza.

And the "ax-pert" stays with you, ensuring you find your footing as you throw the ax at the target.

You can score from one to six points, and the closer you are to the bull's-eye, the higher the score.

By alternating throws and switching between axes, you can find your form in no time.

"It's definitely safe, and the instructors show you what to do," said Anissa Rodriguez, who was joined by her family for some fun on a Monday night.

"They walk you through the whole process, so there is nothing to be worried about. Pretty much when you walk in ... you are part of the crew," said Rodriguez.
