HOUSTON -- While many people have wonderful memories of the holidays, Christmas can trigger memories of time away from home for many wounded veterans. To give wounded Army veteran, Sergeant Jason North and his family a Christmas worth remembering, Bank of America and Texas Sentinels Foundation presented keys to a newly-renovated and mortgage-free home in time for the holidays.
After eight years in the U.S Army serving as a Cavalry Scout Eagle Troop in the second Armored Cavalry Regiment, North sustained combat injuries that ended his military career while on patrol near the Syrian border in Iraq. His vehicle and unit came under heavy enemy fire and North was severely injured after being trapped under the overturned vehicle. He is the recipient of numerous decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, Army Achievement Award and Iraq Campaign Medal.
In addition to family, friends and community members, two Texans football players and cheerleaders were in attendance to welcome Sergeant North to his new home. The key presentation ceremony took place on Dec. 11 at 11 a.m, starting off with the national anthem. Emotions were high during speeches by family members and representatives who donated the home. North, his family, and guest later got a chance to tour the house, enjoy homemade food, and socialize.
