HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Surveillance video shows just how fast a car sped off after a deadly hit and run in Montrose.

Eyewitness News obtained exclusive video from a neighboring business showing the moments after Michael Alexander Hill, 23, was struck and killed. The driver didn't stop.

Hill, known to family and friends as Alex, was walking to meet friends just after midnight January 8 when he was hit by a car on Westheimer near Taft. Eyewitnesses told police he was crossing at the intersection. The driver ran a red light, hit and killed him. Video from the business shows the car with one head light speeding off, and emergency crews then arriving.

"Blew through a red light, didn't even stop, didn't slow down at all," said Jackie Woudenberg, still in disbelief.

Hill moved to Houston from South Carolina last year and worked as a server at two of the city's top restaurants. He spent his free time ice skating. His group of friends are all transplants. They are each other's Houston family.

"It feels like a part of my family is missing," Casey Ray told Eyewitness News. "He had this bright, positive aura. He always lit up a room. The waves of grief keep going and going."

"He always made me laugh. He was selfless. He was such a good friend," added Woudenberg.

Police can only say it was a dark 4-door vehicle that struck him and there would be front end damage. His friends are hoping for a break.

"They really need to be caught and put in jail because they took a life. He had huge dreams," Woudenberg said.

Contact Houston police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS or https://www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=610 if you have any information.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Hill's family with funeral expenses.
