HOUSTON (KTRK) -- What began as a quick stop at the gas station ended in the hospital, because one woman refused to be a victim.
Shawdre'cca King is now using a walker to get around. Just a week ago, she was just one of dozens of people stopping during rush hour at a gas station on Aldine Bender Road and JFK.
"As I was getting in line I saw the guy trying to wave me through the door and when I looked out I saw my lights blinking on my car," King said.
King was inside to get change for the air pump and grabbing a slurpee on the warm day.
"I don't remember if the window was broken or if they stuck something in but I know the alarm makes the sound when all the doors are locked and you open a door that has been locked," said King.
She realized her purse was missing. Video shows at least four men pulling up in a car.
"You can see them getting in and out of their vehicle and kind of casing the place," said Jeff McShan with Houston Crime Stoppers. "They are looking around at cars, going inside the stores. You can tell they are up to no good because they don't buy any gas at all."
The thief casually walks to the getaway car.
"He's just pulling up his pants with my purse in his hand like nothing, like he has no fear, nothing, like the purse belongs to him," said King.
After King left, she saw the men on JFK Boulevard...and that's when she says they rammed into her. What happened next was a blur.
"I hit the curb and remember seeing the light pole in front of me," said King.
King is now nursing rib, lung and back injuries. Police have not caught the men who stole her purse.
