UT Health medican school gets new name
The name change came after a $75M donation.

HOUSTON -- UT-Health made a major announcement this morning regarding its medical school.

The John P. McGovern Foundation donated $75 million to UT Health. The medical school will now be named the John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School.

"I think it definitely ups the game because now we are going to be able to expand what we are doing and do it on a larger scale and be able to get a better grasp on what this medical field will entail," said medical student Esther Osuji. "And just be more well-rounded."

The announcement was about a year in the making and stems from a long-time relationship with the McGovern family. The $75 million gift will fund scholarships, research and support current programs.
