Man dies after falling from tree, impaled on fence in LA

LOS ANGELES -- A man died in a tragic accident after he apparently fell from a tree and became impaled in the face on a metal fence in Los Angeles, authorities said.

Police said they received a call around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday of a possible prowler in the area. When officers arrived on scene on North Berendo Street just south of the 101 Freeway, they found the man dead.

Neighbors said the man was likely not a prowler but someone who may have had too much to drink and accidentally slipped and fell.

The coroner was on scene. An investigation was underway.
