Terror threat has Houston area military groups on alert

Security level raised at all US military bases
Like other military installations across the country Ellington has heightened its security level

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The sign says Ellington airport but there still a Texas National Guard presents with a fighter wing attachment. And like other military installations across the country, Ellington has heightened its security level.

The extra precautions follow last Sunday's attack in Garland which made ISIS more personal here on US soil.

Counterterrorism expert Jim Conway says it should. "You're seeing these crude crazy attacks inspired by ISIS," he says.

Whether it was the Garland incident or additional threats, it has military around the country taking more security measures. Terrorist go after symbols and uniforms and what they represent our part of that.

Law enforcement is a potential target is well, something the Houston police patrolman's union has been aware of for some time, on the job and off.

President Ray Hunt says, "We provide forums to our members every month on ways they can take their names off the tax appraisal rolls just for these kinds of reasons."

This is the highest security level since the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. Jim Conway considers these days more dangerous. "Because of this," he says, "homegrown terrorism in the United States."
