Girl does everything right in home invasion
The teen ran to hide and called 911, getting help on the way

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 15-year-old girl is credited with doing everything right during a scary home invasion in her northwest Harris County home. It happened in a home off Kuhkendahl and Ella in northwest Harris County.

"I'm very blessed and lucky," says Quincy Bland, the father of the teenager.

Both he and his wife were out of the house when the home invasion occurred.

"No harm was done to my daughter, and they caught the guys," he said. "I couldn't have done anything else."

Bland says his daughter heard a noise at the door. She looked over the balcony, and immediately realized that someone was trying to break in. That's when she locked herself in an upstairs bathroom and dialed 911.

"She did what she was suppose to do," says Bland. "She went upstairs, she hid and she called 911, and let the officers take charge at that point."

Precinct 4 Constable deputies arrived within minutes. They caught two suspects and were able to return the items allegedly stolen from the home. The items included gaming consoles and at least one large screen TV. The home's door will have to be repaired. But with two suspects under arrest and his daughter safe, Bland says his family is grateful.

"I'm very very proud of her," he said. "She's a little shaken up right now we all are, but we're OK."
