Ohio girl, 11, accused of fatally beating infant

WICKLIFFE OH (KTRK) -- An 11-year-old was in court Tuesday in Ohio over allegations that she beat a two-month-old baby to death, reports WEWS-TV in Cleveland.

Wickliffe, Ohio, police responded to a call of a baby not breathing on Friday. That baby, Zuri Whitehead, later died at the hospital.

According to police, the 11-year-old girl's mother was babysitting the infant to give her friend a break. The three of them were reportedly together when the babysitter fell asleep.

That's when police say the 11-year-old took the baby to another room and beat her to death.

"We're trying to figure out what could possibly motivate someone to do something like that," said Randy Ice with the Wickliffe Police Department. "And we can't come up with an answer."

The next step for the 11-year-old is a competency hearing. She's currently in juvenile detention.
