A memorial that united so many people in the days after Deputy Darren Goforth was killed was moved to near location

Ten days after Deputy Darren Goforth's murder rocked the entire Houston community, hundreds took part of their Labor Day to pay respect to the fallen deputy.

It's been a growing memorial around a gas pump 8 at the Chevron on West and Telge.

"We were just really touched by this story and had heard such an outpouring from the community that we wanted to come by and pay our regards, and see how the community has been in full support of the tragedy that's gone on here," said Judy Allee.

But Monday night, that memorial was removed.

"I'm actually really sad for this to end," one memorial visitor said.

But it's not gone. Officials just moved it to the corner of West Road and Telge

"The plan for the memorial is -- it's still here," said Deuty Sandeep Dhaliwal. "We're going to move a few feet from it so that business can come to kind of as usual."

Deputy Dhaliwal says Deputy Goforth is the reason he left the pizza business and went into law enforcement. He tells us people will still be able to come pray at the memorial and drop off whatever they'd like.

But Allee says she's glad she got to see it in its original form. She stopped by on her way back home to Austin.

"My son wants to be an officer and it tears at my heartstrings knowing the place they put themselves every day for our safety, what they're willing to do at all costs," said Allee.
