Friends remember Jessica Cain, Kaitlin McCulley reports.

Anahuac, TX (KTRK) -- In the sleepy town of Anahuac, memories of a sweet, bubbly girl named Jessica Cain never faded away.

"Jessica had a beautiful voice," Nacheal Kelley said. "She could sing."

Nacheal Kelley knew Cain as a child, before she moved to the Galveston area. Kelley and her classmates participated in the search for Cain when she went missing in 1997.

"And a lot of our junior class and senior class, they loaded up with 4-wheelers and went out with Texas EquuSearch and people were searching for her body for the longest time," Kelley said. "Or just searching for her in general, then it's just been kind of quiet."

When Kelley and other friends found out investigators are searching for Cain's body in a field in southeast Houston, they came together in prayer.

"I don't know what a good outcome would be," Danni Previte said. "We've all wondered where she was for 20 years."

They spent Saturday afternoon tying red and white ribbons on light poles around town. Search crews used those same colors when looking for Cain in 1997.

Friends also created a Facebook page called "Prayers for Jessica."

"She's never been forgotten," Previtte said. "We talk about her all the time, people that she went to school with."

They want Cain's parents to know Anahuac stands with them no matter what this latest investigation unearths.

Cain's childhood friends are planning a candlelight vigil on March 6 at 5:30pm at Legion Hall in Anahuac.
