Former NFL QB Vince Young arrested in Austin for DWI

AUSTIN, TX (KTRK) -- Former NFL quarterback and Houston product Vince Young was arrested for DWI in Austin late Sunday night, according to Austin police.

It started along the service road of I-35 and 6th Street at around 11:15pm. According to police, Young remained at the light a little under 10 seconds before going.

Then he reportedly got on I-35 without signaling and once on the freeway, drifted out of his lane.

He was stopped and given a field sobriety test. According to police, Young admitted to drinking three or four beers earlier in the night.

Young, who played his high school football at Madison here in Houston, led Texas to a national championship victory over USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl, was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy and went on to play six seasons in the NFL, twice earning Pro Bowl honors.

He retired from the NFL in 2014 and now serves as a diversity and community engagement officer in the division of diversity and community engagement at UT, working as a fundraiser for the division's educational programs.

Young has also been employed by Longhorn Network as an analyst for Texas GameDay since 2014. A spokesperson said that ESPN has no comment on his arrest at this time.
