An Atlanta fire spokesman says a fire has killed six people at a boarding house.

Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Cortez Stafford said that four men and two women perished in the Monday morning blaze on the city's northwest side.

Stafford said fire crews were called to the house about 5 a.m. Monday but were unable to reach most of the building because of the extent to which the flames had spread.

Stafford said that when fire crews arrived, the fire was going through the roof and the home had "collapsed in on itself."

He said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
