Investigators ID remains found by EquuSearch volunteers near Katy Freeway

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police have learned the identity of a man whose remains were found along the Katy Freeway on Sunday.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Paul Schrum by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Members of Texas EquuSearch were canvassing an area below the freeway bridge at 2900 Katy when they discovered human remains and called police. Investigators arrived and determined the remains were a lower torso of a human.

Schrum's cause of death is still pending. Investigators said his family reported Schrum missing on April 10 and last saw him on his birthday on March 17.
