BRENHAM, TX (KTRK) -- Blue Bell Ice Cream has issued another recall of its ice cream that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

This time, the recall involves 3 oz. food service ice cream cups with chocolate, strawberry or vanilla ice cream inside. The cups are not sold in retail stores, but they are used by food service companies that supply food to schools, hospitals and other businesses in 23 states, including Texas.

"This recall in no way includes Blue Bell Ice Cream half gallons, pints, quarts, 3 gallons or other 3 oz. cups with tab lids," a news release states on the FDA's website.

The news release says the recalled ice cream cups "have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."

Just two weeks ago, Blue Bell issued a separate recall due to possible listeria bacteria contaminated. It was the company's first recall in more than 100 years. You can read about that recall by clicking here.
