HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Investigators say they've arrested four people who were involved in an identity theft ring that targeted hundreds of people in Harris County.
Crystal Ballinger, Cody Ligori, Tina Harrington, and Kenneth Grimet were arrested on Monday. They are all charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office says investigators were tipped off by a local bank employee who noticed a large number of credit cards being shipped to one address.
Authorities say the victims' identifying information was stolen through purse snatchings and burglaries in Harris County. Approximately 200 victims and more than 300 pieces of identifying information were linked to the suspects, according to law enforcement.
To combat identity theft, authorities recommend that people get a free annual credit report and monitor their bank and credit card statements regularly. Also, they say if you notice any unauthorized transactions, you should contact your credit card company and make a police report immediately.
