ELMHURST, NY -- A mother from Queens has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of her 11-month-old son over the weekend.

Police responded to a 911 call just after 4 p.m. Sunday on 52nd Avenue, where they were advised that the boy, identified as Kiam Felix, Jr., had been already been rushed to Elmhurst Hospital.

There, they discovered that the child had been pronounced dead on arrival.

No arrests were immediately made, as the Medical Examiner worked to determine the cause of death.

Then, on Monday, 22-year-old Nicole Kelly was taken into custody and charged in connection to the case. The autopsy was inconclusive, but police say Kelly made statements implicating herself.

She reportedly told authorities that she could not deal with taking care of him anymore, so she tucked her son's entire body in a sheet to ensure he could not breathe or move.

She then went to take a shower, and when she returned, he was not breathing. According to police, she then cleaned out his room, taking out all the child's toys and clothes. The only thing left in the room was a suitcase. She then allegedly contacted the father, who took them both to the hospital.

During questioning, Kelly told detectives she was overwhelmed with being the primary caregiver and could not cope anymore.
