NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (KTRK) -- Police have a person in custody after an officer was fatally shot in New Orleans overnight.
The city's police chief said the officer was on routine patrol with three other officers when they saw something suspicious late Thursday night.
The officers stepped out of their vehicle to investigate and the shots were fired hitting one of them multiple times, authorities said.
According to police, officers returned fire as the suspect ran to a nearby apartment complex. The suspect was later arrested.
Police are looking into why the officers were targeted. There were no other injuries from the shooting.
