Man accused of doing 117 in a 55 mph zone, driving drunk

AMITYVILLE, NY -- Police have arrested a man suspected of driving under the influence and escaping when police tried to pull him over.

Around 3 a.m. on Dec. 20, troopers attempted to stop a gray Saab in Farmingdale. According to Suffolk County Police, the car was eastbound, going 117 mph in a 55 mph zone on the Southern State Parkway near the Bethpage Parkway exit.

The car accelerated and exited about 5 miles later at the Straight Path exit when police tried to stop the driver. Police tracked the license plate number to an Amityville address where they arrested Michael Richardson, 30. He admitted to driving the vehicle at the time, according to Suffolk Police.

The defendant was charged with reckless driving, DWI, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed operation, and several traffic violations including speeding

Richardson was held for arraignment in Nassau County.
