Memorial City Mall opens back up after evacuation

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Memorial City Mall is back open following an evacuation earlier today.

Around 6pm, shoppers say they heard an announcement stating there was some type of chemical leak and they needed to leave the premises.

"Everyone immediately began to evacuate the mall; they just basically ran outside the mall. Everyone was super frantic," one mall employee said. "It was just a scary experience. I hope I never have to experience it again."

Authorities have not yet confirmed witness statements, and we don't yet know what chemical, if any, is involved.

By 7pm, the mall was opened back up.
