A man was hit by a train this morning in east Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man has been hospitalized after he was hit by a train in east Houston.

This all happened at around 9:40am. HPD says a caller to 911 said the man was trying to cross the tracks at Lyons near Sakowitz Street when he was hit.

The man was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital by ambulance.

Union Pacific tells Eyewitness News the man had "significant injuries" after the accident.

The company says the man had trespassed onto the tracks at the Lyons Avenue crossing as the train was traveling southbound from the Englewood Yard to Pasadena.

We do not yet know the man's condition.
