The Houston area's damp weather affected FIFA-related events on Saturday as lightning strikes, downpours, and humid heat plagued Southeast Texas.

The Houston Fire Department reported over 10 heat-related incidents at Saturday morning's Oranje Walk near Rice University and Helix Park. Firefighters said they were stationed at several areas along both walks that Dutch and Swedish fans had participated in ahead of the match. According to first responders, two people were hospitalized due to the heat.

The fire department praised itself and the City of Houston for staying prepared for the fan walk.

As previously reported by ABC13, inclement weather at Houston Stadium affected fans even after the match ended, as patrons were advised to shelter in place while severe weather passed over the area.

Later in the day, FIFA officials announced that Fan Festival Houston would close for the day as weather conditions worsened. Organizers said the festival would reopen on Sunday morning.

13 Alert Radar showed several lightning strikes in the area of Houston Stadium and East Downtown in the late afternoon into the evening hours.

Most of Saturday was under an ABC13 Weather Watch as conditions throughout the Houston area were constantly changing.

After the Netherlands defeated Sweden 5-1 at Houston Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the venue was put under "shelter in place" due to weather conditions.

Stadium officials announced that, due to inclement weather conditions, patrons were advised to stay inside the venue until the storm passed the area.

ABC13 captured images at Houston Stadium after the match, including signs advising patrons to stay in their seats until stadium personnel provided instructions. A member of the Eyewitness News team observed many patrons ignoring the warning and leaving their seats.

As weather conditions continue to impact the Houston area on Saturday, FIFA organizers announced that its Fan Festival in East Downtown has temporarily paused entry ahead of the World Cup match between the Netherlands and Sweden.

FIFA officials urged fans to watch from other local venues, including nearby small businesses, adding that gates will reopen as conditions permit. The match at Houston Stadium is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday's closure marks the sixth time FIFA has closed the event due to weather conditions.

Netherlands fans took part in the Oranje Fan Walk on Saturday morning ahead of the team's match in Houston later that afternoon.

The march, which included the famous Orange Dutch bus, started at about 8:45 a.m. from Rice Stadium and headed towards Houston Stadium.

Sweden fans are also marched towards the stadium, starting at Helix Park in the Medical Center.

The World Cup match between the Netherlands and Sweden is set to start at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
