HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There's an easy and free way to get more information about your kid's little league team, like how much money they bring in each year through fees and concessions and what is spent on things like uniforms and umpires.
The easiest way to do this is through a website called Guidestar, which tracks nonprofits like little league teams.
Signing up is free. You can pay for lots of bells and whistles, but the free service is all you need to get access to a form called the 990.
The 990 is the little league's tax form. Just go to 'Advanced search.' Put in 'Little league' -- not the league's specific name - then city and the state. Then search. Click on 990 to see if it's your child's league.
There's lots of data here, from how many kids participate to the revenue coming in to what is spent on uniforms and umpires.
All this will allow you to see if your registration fees are being well spent and gives you a chance to ask questions of the league's management.
To make searching easier for you, we have links below to the 990 forms for some of the prominent little league's in our area.
