HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A teenager is facing seriously felony charges after he allegedly tried to drown a K-9 officer chasing him in the Humble area.
According to the Pct. 4 Constable's Office, someone on Monday reported a suspicious vehicle in the 20700 block of Ibis Pond Lane. A deputy responded and pulled over the car, and during his investigation, he realized the vehicle had been reported stolen during a home invasion.
The suspect ran off, so a Precinct 4 K-9 unit was called to scene and a perimeter was set up. A K-9 officer tracked the 16-year-old through several backyards and into an open field.
The suspect refused to surrender and hit the dog, even tried to drown it in water. However, the K-9 officer overpowered the teen and deputies were able to take him into custody.
The teen was arrested on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and interference of a police service dog. He's being held at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
"This suspect at an early age has chosen to commit 2 very violent acts. Hopefully our juvenile system can get him redirected," Constable Mark Herman said.
