J.J. Watt charity event organizers halt ticket sale

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Ticket sales for the third annual J.J. Watt Charity Classic have stopped apparently due to issues with the organization's website, according to a post on the Sugar Land Skeeters' Facebook page.

The following message was posted, apologizing for issues buyers faced this morning.

"We worked with them all week to make sure it was going to be up and running and tested it and for some reason, it went down and we're trying to find out why. But it was a hit and miss, on and off, some people got it, some people didn't. We're trying to come to the bottom of this, we're going to try and make this right," said General Manager of Sugar Land Skeeters, Chris Jones.

Tickets are now sold out. Those who showed up in person to buy tickets got them but for some who tried to buy online and couldn't get through, they are out of luck.

Some of Watt's fans say they get the mania and don't blame Watt for the mess.

"I don't know if he can move it to a bigger venue but again, he wants to be up close and personal so I guess you win some, you lose some," said fan Janice Hayes.

The game is scheduled for Friday, May 1, at Constellation Field in Sugar Land. Events include a home run derby, softball game with defensive and offensive players from the Houston Texans competing, as well as a silent auction and a J.J. Watt merchandise sale.

In 2014, the event sold out and raised $420,000 for the Justin J. Watt Foundation, whose mission is to provide after-school opportunities for children in the community to become involved in athletics.
