HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Gallery Furniture shoppers have one reason to want the price of oil to climb again.

Owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale says a new company promotion will pay off shoppers' purchases if the price of an oil barrel surpasses $85 when the New York Mercantile Exchange closes December 31.

The deal is valid through February 1 but it's applicable only to the first 500 shoppers who purchase $7,000 or more worth of furniture in a single transaction. The promotion excludes electronics but does include special orders on fabric upholstered furniture and solid wood if delivery is taken within four weeks.

"These free furniture promotions allow us to surprise and delight our longstanding customers and make new customers in the process," Gallery Furniture owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale said. "I admit it is a little nerve-wracking when we have to refund the money but we are hoping to make customers for life."

Gallery Furniture is known for its event-based promotions. The company shelled refunded $8 million to qualifying customers who predicted a Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl win, and another $4 million when the Astros won more than 63 games in 2014.

The company has two stores, one located off I-45 North between Tidwell and Parker, and another on Post Oak near The Galleria.
