Feds seek Atascocita man accused of producing child porn

ATASCOCITA, TX (KTRK) -- An Atascocita man accused of producing and possessing child pornography is now a fugitive.

A federal warrant is out for Moises Valdez, 41, after authorities say they found child porn on a laptop in his bedroom during a search of his home in January.

The United States Attorneys' Office says FBI agents found 75 images and 180 videos of child pornography on that computer. Agents say among that find they found a graphic video that appeared to be taken by Valdez of a girl younger than 10 being sexually assaulted in his bedroom.

Authorities say in March Valdez's wife identified the child as a relative who was 4 years old at the time of the alleged assault. Valdez's wife also was able to verify the appearance of Valdez in the video, according to a release from the USAO.

The wife of Moises Valdez told abc13 over the phone, she's cut off all contact with him and doesn't know his whereabouts. On his front porch, you can see children's toys.

Eyewitness News crews witnessed Child Protective Services stop by the residence late Wednesday afternoon.

Off Wisteria Chase Place in Atasca Woods, neighbors like Matthew Carpenter were outraged to find out why federal authorities raided the Valdez home back in January.

"I'm serious. That's just the lowest of the low to me," said Carpenter. "That's absolute scum. There's no forgiving that. That's a sickness."

Valdez's next door neighbor, Jody Mortensen, said she doesn't believe the serious allegations. She insisted Valdez is a good guy and cops must have the wrong information.

"This is devastating. This is life altering if you're guilty or if you're innocent. This is life altering," said Mortensen, who didn't want to show her face on camera. "I will defend him to my dying day unless I see something. It would have to be an imagine of a kid that I would recognize. There's no way. There's no way."

Mortensen fired back against the federal complaint.

"Even right now, even right now with this accusation, and with you guys coming here ... I would still allow him to see my kids," said Mortensen. "He's absolutely a family guy. He's part of the neighborhood. He's friendly, giving, outgoing. He's inclusive, just a very very good guy."

Those inside Valdez's home ignored knocks on their front door. When approached outside, they sped off without answering any questions.
