PLUM GROVE, TX (KTRK) -- Property owners discovered badly decomposed human skeletal remains while clearing brush from a wooded area in Plum Grove, officials say.
According to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, the property owners discovered a human skull and "several bones" on Sunday afternoon. The remains are so badly decomposed that it was not immediately clear if there were any signs of foul play, nor could investigators determine the gender of the victim.
No additional belongings were discovered at the scene that could help identify the body.
Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace Judge Ralph Fuller has ordered an autopsy to determine a possible cause of death and shed light on any other details that lead to an identification.
Police say they have no information that indicates the remains could belong to any person reported missing in Liberty County.
The remains were unearthed in a lot on the site of the proposed Grand San Jacinto subdivision off of FM 1010 in Plum Grove.
