HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The city of Houston welcomed its new mayor and other elected officials took their oath of office with a public inauguration ceremony Monday at Jones Hall downtown. In the nearly one hour affair, the stage was set for Mayor Sylvester Turner and his promises to turn the city of Houston into one of the best in the world.

"Let's make this the best city the world has ever seen!" Turner said.

The public inauguration featured music from the Houston Symphony and Grammy-Award winning singer Yolanda Adams.

"Houston is a city of hope and opportunity. This is Houston, let us invest in it," Turner added.

In his inauguration speech, Mayor Turner announced his plan to fix potholes in the city within 24 hours of being reported to 3-1-1.

The mayor also took the time to shout out the University of Houston for their win in the Peach Bowl over the Florida State Seminoles.
