Voters to decide who emerges from crowded Houston mayor's race

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houstonians, the future of the city is in your hands as voters choose a new mayor. The race for the city's top spot continues today. What remains uncertain is which candidate could pull ahead.

Recent polls do not show a dominate lead by any one of the 13 people vying to run city hall. The general election is scheduled to take place in Houston on November 3rd. However, tens of thousands of people have already cast a ballot during early voting. Early voting ends this Friday.

Current Democratic Congressman Sylvester Turner and Former Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia are among the top contenders, according to experts.

Other candidates to watch out for include: former U.S. Representative Chris Bell, city council member Stephen Costello, outspoken conservative Bill King, former city attorney Ben Hall, and businessman Marty McVey.

A candidate must receive more than 50 percent of the vote to become Houston's next mayor and follow current Mayor Annise Parker. If no candidate does, the top 2 contenders will face a run-off election in December.
