Houston drivers among the very worst in the nation

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Just how bad are Houston drivers? According to a report from Allstate, Houston drivers are among some of the very worst drivers in the nation.

Allstate ranked the best drivers in 200 largest cities in the United States and Houston ranked No. 170 in accident frequency. Last year, Houston ranked No. 158 on Allstate's list.

Allstate said it has about one-tenth of the insurance market and based its data on accident claims it received from the cities.

According to the data, Houston drivers on average are likely to have a vehicle collision once every 7.2 years, which is about 37% higher than the national average.

The study doesn't explain the reasons behind the accident frequency in Houston, but Allstate creates the report to "highlight the importance of educating people about safe driving."

According to Allstate, the city with the worst drivers is Boston, where they have a bad accident every 3.9 years, on average.

The city with the best drivers is Kansas City, Kan., where they only get into crashes every 13.3 years.
