MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- The old proverb, "Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime", was put to into action by a Minneapolis restaurateur, who took a homeless man off the street and put him in the kitchen.
WCCO-TVreports, when a homeless man named Marcus came into Cesia Baires' restaurant asking for money, she asked him "why don't you work".
Marcus told her no one would hire him, but she decided to take a chance and hire the man, who told her he had a criminal record.
"I'm thinking I have a lot of dishes in there (laughs) and I'm like well Marcus if you want to work I have a job for you", said Baires.
Before putting him to work doing dishes, Baires offered him a sandwich. She was touched by the fact that even before the man ate half, he gave the other half to a woman outside.
Marcus worked that day, and he was asked to come back the next day, and he's still coming back each day to work a shift.
"You know being out on the streets is not life, not at all. If you have life and you can give that to someone else, why not do it", said Baires.
