HOA moves peacocks out of Cypress neighborhood

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Peacocks that once invaded a neighborhood are now gone, and the disappearance has residents upset over the eviction.

"I did not like it," said Cypress Mills resident Brett Stanaker. "I mean, I wish they were still here. I cannot stand that there were too many of them. Maybe if they relocated some of them, not all of them."

Stanaker said more than five years ago, two peacocks flew in to his subdivision.

"They just go through your yard looking for food," said Stanaker.

But lately, what started out as just a few peacocks, grew into to a family of four.

"They will make some noises during mating season," said Stanaker.

Photos provided by Stanaker show the peacocks getting more comfortable in the neighborhood. They could be seen walking and scratching on cars, in trees and on top of homes. Some residents began complaining to the homeowners association. And just recently, they took action.

In a statement to abc13, the Cypress Mills HOA said they "voted to approve the relocation of four peacocks living within the neighborhood. In order to prevent further property damage and safeguard against potential incidents involving pets or small children, the birds will be safely transported to a suitable home where they can live out the rest of their natural lives."

It's not clear where the birds were relocated to. The HOA did not immediately provide that information.
