Dozens treated for heat stroke symptoms
At least 8 students were transported to local hospitals as a precaution

SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- Dozens of people were treated for heat stroke symptoms at a football stadium in Sugar Land Saturday.

It happened just after 2:30pm at the Edward Mercer Stadium at the 16000 block of Lexington Boulevard during a game between Madison High School and Bush High School.

The Sugar Land Fire Department says they treated at least 15 students for heat-related symptoms and eight were transported to the hospital as a precaution.

Fort Bend ISD issued a statement regarding the incident at Mercer Stadium:

"Bush HS is playing Madison HS at Mercer Stadium this afternoon, and the game has been delayed due to lightening with one minute left. Earlier, 15 students complained of heat-related conditions. Multiple EMS units were called to the stadium, and as a precaution, eight were transported to local hospitals and two are going to the hospital by private automobiles. None of the complaints are considered life-threatening by the emergency officials, but they are taking all necessary precautions to deal with the heat-related conditions experienced by these students. We are very grateful that none of the student complaints are considered by emergency officials as serious."
